Why it matters:
At sea, for a while, the medical response is you.
When someone is injured or seriously ill offshore, professional help can be hours or days away. The person designated to give medical care isn't assisting a doctor — for a while, they are the response, working with telemedical advice (TMAS) and the ship's medical stores until the casualty reaches definitive care.
These courses build that capability: structured assessment, working diagnosis using the Ship's Captain's Medical Guide, practical procedures, and confident use of telemedical support to manage a casualty over the hours or days until help arrives. Taught hands-on, by someone who has done it.

Foundation course. Immediate assessment and treatment of injury and illness at sea. Entry point to the medical training pathway.

Proficiency in Medical Care Onboard Ships
STCW A‑VI/4‑2 | 5 Days
Management-level qualification. Working diagnosis, extended care, Category A medical stores, TMAS coordination. Component of MCA Master 500–3000gt certification. Spiral-learning throughout.
Prerequisite: Valid Medical First Aid certificate (within 5 years)
